Search “Goldendoodle breeders near Dallas” and you'll get pages of results — but a good share of them aren't breeders at all, and a good share of the rest aren't anywhere near Dallas. This post covers how to tell the difference, what to verify before you put money down, and how our own Dallas–Fort Worth program works.
We raise Goldendoodles in Red Oak, just south of Dallas, and in Midland, TX. Three families — the Purkeys, the Stinnetts, and the Gentrys — raise every litter in their homes.
DFW is a big market, and that cuts both ways
The metroplex has real demand for doodles, which means real local breeders — and it also means brokers, resellers, and out-of-state kennels buying ads against “Dallas Goldendoodle puppies.” A broker takes your deposit and sources a puppy from a kennel you'll never see. The puppy might be fine. But nobody can tell you how it was raised, because nobody in the transaction was there.
The tell is usually specificity. A local program can tell you which town the litter is in, which dogs are the parents, and when you can come meet them. A broker answers those questions with shipping options and availability calendars.
Verify three things before you reserve
Health testing on the parents. Ask what was tested and ask to see it. Every dog in our program is genetically cleared at minimum, and most are OFA-certified for hips and elbows — the screening that matters most for a breed that can grow past 50 lbs. Where the puppies actually sleep.Puppies raised underfoot in a family home have already met a vacuum, a doorbell, and a couple of kids by the time they're eight weeks old. Puppies raised in a kennel building meet all of that for the first time in your living room.
What the price includes. Ours is $1,700 per puppy — a $200 reservation fee, then $1,500 at pickup — including the first puppy shot and a vet well-check. Optional upgrades like microchipping are available if you want them handled before pickup. A price much lower than the market usually means something was skipped; a price much higher should come with a clear explanation of what the extra buys.
Choosing a size for a DFW home
Space drives this decision more than anything else. Mini Goldendoodles run 20–35 lbs and do well in apartments, townhomes, and the smaller lots inside the loop. Standard Goldendoodles run 40–70 lbs and are a natural fit for the fenced suburban yards you find in Mansfield, Midlothian, and Waxahachie.
Coat matters as much as size in a house with allergies. Our F1B Goldendoodles are 75% Poodle, which is why they carry the curliest coats and shed the least of any generation we raise.
Living with a doodle in North Texas
Two things get new DFW doodle owners: the summer and the coat. Walk early or late from June through September, keep water in front of them, and check the pavement with the back of your hand before you head out — asphalt that's comfortable for your shoes can burn paws. And book a groomer before you need one. A Goldendoodle coat mats if it isn't brushed a few times a week, and a matted coat holds heat against the skin instead of letting it out. Every good DFW groomer has a waitlist; get on one early.
