It started with Daisy
We've always been dog people. After years of black labs, we brought home our first Goldendoodle, Daisy, in 2018. Our oldest son, Jason, was four. Daisy let him dress her up as a superhero and use her as a pillow, and she never once lost her patience with him.
That's the temperament we fell in love with, and it's the one we still breed for. Daisy's line runs through the program today. Peaches, one of our current moms, is her daughter with our red standard poodle, Tye.
Why we started breeding
We had our first litter in 2020 for two reasons. We wanted other families to have a dog like Daisy. We also wanted to help cover medical and education costs for Jason, who has cerebral palsy.
Since then, the goal has grown. Jason's CP mainly affects his speech and oral motor skills. He communicates with sign language, texting, and his iPad, and he's fully able to care for the dogs. We're building Purkey Puppies into a business Jason can run himself one day, as a way to earn a living and live independently. Every litter moves him a step closer to that.
Three families, two Texas locations
Growing the program while working full-time and raising kids meant calling in family. Jenna's parents, Jim and Robbie Stinnett, and her sister's family, Jessica, Jeff, and Layla Gentry, joined the team. That added our Dallas-area program in Red Oak alongside our home base in Midland.
The Stinnetts are retired and live on an acre, so they're with the puppies all day, feeding, handling, and socializing them. The Gentrys focus on Mini Goldendoodles, including their mom Macey, who joined the family in 2023. Every litter is whelped and raised inside one of our homes. There are no kennels or outbuildings in our program.
Our dogs are our pets first
Every breeding dog lives with us as a family pet. Several of them were born here: Millie and Finn are second-generation Purkey Puppies from Teddy's litters, and Luna came from Lizzy and Tye. When we keep a puppy from our own litter, it's because we've watched its temperament since birth and know it belongs in the program.
All of our breeding dogs are genetically cleared at minimum, and most are OFA-certified for hips and elbows. You can meet every one of our parent dogs and read exactly how we screen them in Our Health Testing Standards.
What this means for your family
A family program means you talk to the people who actually raise your puppy. Our F1B, Mini, and Standard Goldendoodles are all $1,700: a $200 reservation to join the waitlist and $1,500 at pickup. Optional puppy upgrades are listed separately, so there are no surprises.
